Equipment List



Technical Gear
  • Climbing boots. Plastic or Leather works.
  • Ice axe. Light mountaineering ice axe.
  • Crampons. Check that they fit well with your boots.
  • Harness.
Feet
  • Hiking boots or shoes. Good fit, cushion and support is required.
  • Sandals. To use around camps and in town.
  • Running socks. 3 pairs. Expedition weight socks. 3 pairs. Wool or synthetic, with padded shins (they feel great).
Lower body
  • Light underwear bottoms. Avoid cotton.
  • Climbing pants. Tough nylon recommended
  • Climbing shorts.
  • Long Johns.
  • Softshell or hardshell pants.
  • Gaiters.
Upper body
  • Synthetic tops. 3
  • Fleece jacket. Midweight 100 to 200 fleece. Full front zip recommended.
  • Insulated jacket. Synthetic works great.
  • Hard shell jacket. Windproof-breathable.
Head
  • Sun hat or baseball cap. Synthetic works best.
  • Warm hat. Wool or pile.
Eye Wear
  • Sunglasses. Go with 100% UV, IR protection.
  • Ski Goggles.
Hands
  • Light synthetic gloves. Capilene or similar, as a first layer.
  • Fleece gloves.
  • Waterproof mountaineering gloves.
Camping gear
  • Down or synthetic sleeping bag. Should be at least 0 F. Foam Sleeping pad. Closed cells, full length.
  • Thermarest pad. ¾ size will work. Great combined with a foam pad. Include repair kit.
  • Backpack. Up to 3500 cu inches. Simple design, good fit.
  • Headlamp and spare batteries. LED small headlamps work well.
  • 2 water bottles. Wide mouth 1-liter Nalgene style.
  • 1 thermos. Half liter is plenty enough and still light.
  • Sunscreen and lip protection. At least 30 SPF for both.
  • Small first aid kit. Include earplugs, tape, blisters kit, several aspirin tablets, personal medications.
  • Pocket knife. Light and simple, Swiss style.
  • Insulated cup, plastic bowl and spoon. Cup insulated and with lid. Lexan Spoon and bowl are light and durable.
Optional items
  • Book, notebook, pencil. Waterproof Rite'n the rain notebooks suggested. Avoid pen.
  • Walkman. Bring battery chargers.
  • Camera and film/usb cable. Small disposable works good. If digital, bring usb connection if you want to send pictures from town.
  • Hand sanitizer.
  • Personal food treats. Favorite candy, jerky or other snacks.
  • Personal energy supplies. Energy bars, Gatorade, Citomax, Gu, etc.
  • Toiletry bag. Toothbrush, toothpaste, wipes, etc.
  • Travel clothes.
