Condoriri Valley & Illimani
Cordillera Real, Bolivia


The Cordillera Real contains more than 600 mountains above 17,000 ft offering a great challenge for high altitude mountaineering.

Departing from La Paz, we'll be passing Lake Titicaca, before reaching the Condoriri Valley, where we'll set our base camp at the Chiar Kota Lagoon. From here we'll attempt our two first summits: Pequeño Ilusion (17,000 ft) and Pequeño Alpamayo (17,700 ft).

We will then continue to the Zongo Valley and the Huayna hut. From this point we'll climb Huayna Potosi (20,100 ft), possibly the most beautiful mountain in the region.

The Illimani (21,300 ft) extension of this trip will give us an extra summit whcih is the highest point in the Cordillera Real.

Condoriri Valley & Illimani Trip Itinerary



Day 1 La Paz (11,800 ft). We'll pick you up at the airport and continue on to our 3 star hotel. After an introduction and gear check, we'll have our welcome dinner.
Day 2 La Paz- Copacabana (13,200 ft). We'll travel to Copacabana located just beside Lake Titicaca. Night at the hotel.
Day 3 Copacabana- Chiar Khota Lagoon (15,200) ft). We'll move to Tuni and start hiking to our base camp beside the lagoon (3 hrs).
Day 4 Chiar Khota Lagoon. Acclimatization day. We'll do a short trek while practicing different glacier travel techniques and safety skills.
Day 5 Pequeño Ilusión (17,000 ft). Before dawn, we'll start hiking towards the glacier and begin using the ropes and techniques we learned the previous day. We'll then continue climbing to our first summit (6 hrs. roundtrip).
Day 6 Pequeño Alpamayo (17,700 ft). With an early start we'll go for our next summits. First will be Tarija (17,250), then we'll climb to the top of Pequeño Alpamayo (8 hrs. roundtrip).
Day 7 Chiar Khota - Huayna Potosi hut (15,500 ft). We'll descend to Tuni where pre-arranged 4x4 transport will take us to the Huayna Potosi hut in the Zongo valley. Evening in the hut.
Day 8 Argentinean Camp (18,050 ft). We'll move to our high camp with the help of porters (5 hrs. roundtrip).
Day 9 Huayna Potosi (19,974 ft). Climbing up glaciers and snow slopes, we'll make our way to the summit. Descend to our camp. 5-7 hours roundtrip.
Day 10 Huayna Potosi Hut - La Paz. We'll head down to our hotel in La Paz where a hot shower and a celebration dinner awaits us.
Day 11 Extra day. In case of bad weather or further acclimatization.
Day 12 Transfer to the airport. End of our services.

Illimani (21,125 ft) Extension
Day 11 La Paz - Puente Roto Camp (14,436 ft). We'll take a 4x4 followed by some hiking to our camp (3-4 hrs).
Day 12 Puente Roto - Nido de Condores camp (17,720 ft). We'll move our camp with the help of porters (4-5 hours).
Day 13 Illimani (21,125 ft). This day we'll attempt the highest point in the range. After reaching the summit we'll descend to our high camp and then to Puente Roto camp, where we'll spend our last night in the mountains.
Day 14 Puente Roto - La Paz. We'll hike down 3 hours until reaching our 4x4 transportation, then we'll drive to our hotel in La Paz.
Day 15 Extra day. In case of bad weather or further acclimatization
Day 16 Transfer to the airport. End of our services.

Restaurant meals included: day 1, day 10 and day 14.
Hotel includes breakfast.
