Andes Mountain Guides: Meet the Guides

Amy was introduced to climbing and skiing in glaciated mountains nearly 20 years ago and has not been able to stay away since. She has been a mountain guide for 12 years all over North America, Nepal, France and Tibet. New routes in Peru include Artesonraju, Millishraju, Jatunriti, and Colquecruz. First ascent of Dos Cuernos on the Southern Patagonian Icecap, Argentina. Numerous expeditions to the Himalaya include Mustagh Tower in Pakistan, first ascent Melanphulan in Nepal, unclimbed peaks Hongu Nepal and peaks in Ladakh India. In 1999 she led the first unsupported American Women’s expedition to an 8,000 meter peak- Cho Oyu in Tibet, and she summitted Everest in 2004 working as a guide and climbing double for Universal Studios. She also guides for Exum, Chicks with Picks, and Snowbird Expeditions and is a Marmot sponsored athlete. She also enjoys using her guiding skills to directly give back through volunteering for the Khumbu Climbing School in Nepal, teaching Sherpas to climb waterfall ice and rescue skills.

Coop has been an avid climber and mountain guide for over 14 years. For the last decade, his passion for climbing has taken him to the best climbing and skiing locations in the world. With expeditions to Spain, Italy, France, Chile, Peru, Vietnam, and Thailand Coop has climbed in almost every continent. Coop has many first ascents of rock and ice routs in Montana and many first ski descents in Montana and Alaska. Coop has been the owner and one of the senior guides for Montana Alpine Guides in Bozeman Montana for 7 years and has recently completed his masters degree in Snow Science from Montana State University. As a guide and climbing instructor Coop, enjoys introducing people to the art of rock and ice climbing in the highest and most remote places on earth. He also guides multi-day, backcountry ski and ski mountaineering expeditions as well as teaching avalanche safety. Coop currently lives and works in Bozeman, Montana as a guide and avalanche forecaster.

Since Eduardo was very young he has been dedicated exclusively to mountaineering and to his professional formation in to a climbing guide. He's now an IFMGA guide with 11 years of high altitude experience and has reached the summit of Mt. Aconcagua over 12 times (first time at 15 years old). He also has made several first ascents to mountains in Argentina, Bolivia and Peru. He's reached a very high level in every mountaineering discipline, excelling in ice and rock climbing. Eduardo has climbed up to 5.13c sport routes as well as aid climbs like Mescalito on Yosemite's El Capitan and several hard alpine ascents in Patagonia. He has climbed in USA, Canada, Mexico, Spain, France and Italy. Eduardo speaks Spanish and English.
He lives in Bariloche, Argentina.

Marcos has been guiding since 1992 throughout the Andes range. As one of the IFMGA instructors in Argentina he is one of the most qualified guides of this country. In the central Andes Marcos has climbed Aconcagua five times, as well as various other 5,000 meter peaks.
In his well-known Patagonia he has made two ascents to Fitz Roy, Saint Exupery, Poincenot and Guillaumet. In Peru he has climbed more than 10 peaks including Huarcaran, Alpamayo and Artesonraju. Outside South America he has climbed Mt. Kenya and Kilimanjaro in Africa, The Matterhorn and Mont Blanc in Europe, and several rock climbs in places like Brazil and Thailand.
In the U.S he has made several ascents in Yosemite, including El Capitan and Half Dome.
Marcos speaks Spanish, English and French and lives in Patagonia.

Bob is an avid climber whose love for teaching and for the outdoors has led him to pursue a career as a professional guide. For the last ten years, his passion for climbing has taken him throughout the Western United States, Spain, Italy, Austria, Germany, France, Mexico, Chile and Argentina. Recent personal accomplishments include free ascents of Rainbow Wall Original Route and Sergeant Slaughter, both Grade V, 5.12 routes in the Red Rock; a solo ascent of Aconcagua; and a speed solo ascent of Prodigal Sun (Grade V, 5.7 C2) in Zion National Park.
As a guide and climbing instructor in Red Rocks, he enjoys introducing people to this area's long and classic routes. He also guides multi-day, backcountry trips in Grand Teton National Park and the Wind River Range of Wyoming. Bob also coaches a Junior Climbing Team and teaches climbing to UNLV students in Las Vegas.
He speaks Spanish and Italian.

As a mountain fan, Lucas has been climbing for more than 15 years. He has made several ascents to different peaks throughout Patagonia, Peru, Chile, Bolivia and Europe. He has participated on expeditions to Patagonia's Ice Cap and Mt. San Lorenzo. Lucas is a member of the rescue team and a ski and mountaineering instructor in his town, Bariloche, Argentina.

A dedicated climber for 10 years Sam has worked as a climbing guide/instructor in the Andes and Rocky Mountains. In the Andes Sam has climbed peaks such as Artesanrajus SE aręte, Alpamayo, Tocllaraju, and El Esphinje, among other peaks and some first ascents (Katinka 5.10+ 200 meters, Huamasharaju).
Sam has made several climbing trips to Europe, Canada, Alaska, and Mexico for both ice and rock and has spent over a year climbing hard rock routes in Spain. In the US Sam has climbed extensively in Yosemite and Zion NP among other areas at grades up to 5.12 on rock and ice up to WI 6. When not on the road climbing Sam resides in Bozeman, Montana where he has made multiple first ascents from 100'-1,000' up to WI 5+, 5.11+, and A2.
When not climbing, Sam enjoys back-country skiing and wood working. Sam is fluent in both English and Spanish.

Originally from Ohio, Whit now lives in Bozeman, Montana. He has spent his last 10 years focused on hard climbs through the U.S, Canada, France and Peru. He has climbed Astro Man (5.11c), the Rostrum (5.11c) and The Nose in a day as well as hard ice climbs such as Winter Dance (WI 7). Whit also guides for Jackson Hole Mountain Guides and Alaska Mountain School. When not climbing, Whit enjoys golf, croquet, and eating crumpets with his tea.

Manuel has been a guide since 1997 in Patagonia, US, and Canada. Manuel lives in Chalten where he works and enjoys an his amazing backyard. His climbing goals have taken him to the Bugaboos, Banff National Park, Squamish, Chile and Bolivia. In his well-known Patagonia he has climbed Mermoz, Guillaumet, Media Luna, Rafael and has made several trips on to the Ice Cap.

Juan was born and raised in Argentina but he lives now in Bozeman, Montana. In the last ten years, he has guided and climbed extensively throughout, Patagonia, Brazil, Spain and the United States. He did many first ascents in the central Andes as well as solo ascents including Mt. Cuerno's Southwest face in Aconcagua's area; Grand Teton's Direct Exum and El Capitan's The Nose. To date, Juan has guided 15 expeditions in Aconcagua via three different routes. Juan also guides for Montana Alpine Guides. He speaks Spanish and English.

Martin was born in the Basque Country and lives in Bozeman, Montana.
He has guided for the last 30 years throughout the Pyrenees, Alps, Andes and Alaska, being our most experienced guide.
Some of his long list of alpine climbs are Eigger north face, Aiguille du Dru and Mont Blanc in the Alps; Huascaran, Alpamayo and Ranrapalca in Peru; and first ascents as Aconcagua's West Face new variation in the Andes, Nevado Huyuash's Central Peak in Colombia and Kaga-Tondo-Zuri Tondo and Hombori in Africa.
In Alaska and the Yukon range he climbed Denali's Cassin ridge and Lucania and Steele mountains.
In the Himalayas, Martin reached the summits of Everest, (first Spaniard ascent), Kanchenjunja's north face (first successful U.S expedition), Cho Oyu and Ama Dablam via a new route on the south ridge. Other expeditions include Annapurna, Lhotse, Makalu, and two attempts to K2.

Fede is originally from La Pampa, but changed the plains for the mountains to dedicate his time climbing and skiing. He is a fully certified IFMGA guide, who has climbed in many destinations around the world like Patagonia, Switzerland, France, Italy, Croatia and Peru.
He is also a ski instructor and has been teaching at the AAGM (Asociacion Argentina de Guias de Montana) for 8 years.
Fede is well known for his endless list of jokes and for doing the most amazing "asados" (argentinian BBQ).
He lives between Bariloche and Switzerland, where he works full time as a Mountain Guide and Ski Instructor.
